What to Expect at Your Family & Pet Photo Session
Hi — I’m Robin. I love capturing the messy, joyful, furry bits of life that make your family unique. If you’ve booked (or are thinking about booking) an at-home or outdoor session with me, here’s how the whole process works and a few easy ways to prepare so your session feels relaxed and fun.
1. Consultation & Book
You can book directly on the website, and each booking includes a short consultation call (phone or video). If you’re still deciding, you can contact me first and we’ll set up a call to chat through ideas. During the consultation we’ll talk about the feelings and image ideas you want, brainstorm locations, and pick a date (and a rain date for outdoor sessions when needed).
2. Planning & Prep
After our call I’ll send simple tips tailored to your session — things like wardrobe guidance, favorite props or toys to bring, and how to keep pets comfortable on the day. For outdoor sessions I’ll suggest times and locations that give us beautiful light; for at-home sessions we’ll choose the rooms and corners that tell your story.
3. On Session Day — relaxed & real
I offer family sessions (pets are always welcome) as well as dedicated pet-only sessions; my style is documentary-inspired with a few gentle prompts (no stiff posing), and we’ll start with relaxed moments to help everyone settle before moving into playful, candid interactions—sibling giggles, bedtime snuggles, or your pup’s favorite trick—all at your pet’s pace and in your family’s natural rhythm so the session feels easy and joyful.
4. Quick timeline
- 10–15 minutes: arrivals, a few warm-up shots, and letting children and/or pets acclimate
- 30–40 minutes: the heart of the session — candid moments, movement, and a few posed portraits if you’d like
- Final 10–15 minutes: wrap-up, a few last close-ups, and a recap of what to expect next
These times are flexible. I always work around babies and pets who need more breaks. I value safety and comfort above all. This experience should be fun and happy.
5. After the Session
I’ll edit the images with a clean, timeless look and send your gallery within the time frame we agreed on. From there you can choose favorites for prints, wall art, or even holiday cards. I’ll happily guide you on framing and layout ideas.
Simple prep tips that make a big difference
- Bring favorites: a beloved toy, blanket, or treat helps pets relax and shows their personality.
- Dress for comfort: coordinated (but not matchy-matchy) outfits photograph best — think layers and texture.
- Keep routines in mind: try to keep naps and meals close to normal on session day for a happier, more cooperative pet/kiddo.
- Trust the process: my style is about feeling and connection, not perfection. The real, messy moments are the ones you’ll treasure most.
If you’re ready to book, head to the booking page — your session includes a consultation so we can plan every detail together. If you still want to chat first, contact me and we’ll set up a quick call. I can’t wait to help you tell your story.
